Top tips on FOOD as a fresher

Don’t be the fresher who only ate kebabs and cheesy chips all year! And don’t let yourself be known as pot noodle kid, nobody wants to be pot noodle kid!

EATING & STAYING HEALTHY

One of the best things you can do to ensure that you eat and stay healthy whilst being a fresher is practice a few basic meals at home, which you know, are cheap to make and you like before you arrive. You want a few meals which are cheap, quick to prepare, and are suitable for freezing so you can just dip in and grab a healthy meal whenever you like!

Another great idea is to do weekly food shops, either order online and get delivered to your door or scout out a low cost super market such as Aldi and Lidl, you can save on price without saving on quality and doing this will stop you from buying from expensive convenience stores or from takeaways!

Eating together as a flat is another great way to eat healthy food and also keep your costs low! Taking it in turns to cook can be fun and good bonding and also cooking for a group can be cheaper than cooking on your own. Things like pesto pasta, and curry are great and easy to cook for a group!

Try and avoid reaching for the dreaded pot noodle, or cheap ready meals. If you absolutely must try and get a healthy balanced ready meal, but be aware that these are highly expensive in comparison to home cooked meals and sometimes might not even be that healthy!

The Student union and university campuses often have cafes where meals for students, there’s usually a lot of choice of options and some are really nice, not to mention the universities offer these meals really cheap!

Look for deals as students on 2-4-1 offers or set meal deals if you are going out, and don’t forget to ask
